IC Sockets & Adapters
Board-to-Board Connectors
- Bandwidth Up to 94 GHz
- Pitch Range 0.2mm – 2.54mm
- Height Range 0.25mm – 5mm
- Contact Technologies Elastomer, Spring Pin, Pin-Clip
- Contact Resistance <30 mΩ
- Development No hard tooling required
Board-to-board connectors in elastomer, spring pin, and pin-clip technologies running up to 94 GHz in a compact footprint, with laser-and-laminate construction for fast prototype and production turnarounds without hard tooling.
Three contact technologies cover the board-to-board interconnect range.
Elastomer connectors provide extremely short electrical paths with low inductance and excellent compliance, making them ideal for very high-speed and fine-pitch applications where conventional connectors become mechanically or electrically limiting.
They hit the highest bandwidth at 94 GHz, with silver particles in silicon column buttons embedded in a non-conductive polymer substrate for two-sided compliance, <30 mΩ contact resistance, and -55°C to +160°C operating range. Laser-cut footprints span 0.2mm to 1.27mm pitch, with coaxial configurations for impedance matching and support for both board-to-board and flex-to-board layouts.
Spring pin connectors run heights from 1mm to 5mm across 0.3mm to 1.27mm pitch, with stamped or precision screw-machined contacts in laser-cut, laminated housings that allow custom contact placement without hard tooling. Each pin carries up to 8A at <30 mΩ contact resistance, operating from -55°C to +180°C.
Pin-clip (male/female) connectors mate and unmate between mother and daughter boards with gold-plated surfaces, a 4.5mm electrical path from male pin top to female solder ball, and half the mating force of conventional connectors. Available at 1mm and 0.8mm pitch in lead and lead-free solder ball types, qualified to MIL-STD environmental tests for automotive, military, communication, and industrial applications.
Overview
Ironwood’s board-to-board connectors support prototype and production applications across three contact technologies: elastomer for maximum bandwidth, spring pin for flexible height and high endurance, and pin-clip for mate/unmate applications. Laser-and-laminate construction means custom configurations are delivered in days, not weeks.
